One thing that people don't appreciate enough about land taxes (and even property taxes) is that the existence of the tax means the property is much cheaper for you to acquire in the first place. You can put the difference into stocks and pay the tax out of the price gains.

Good stuff here. The bet the climate hawks are making is that government bureaucracy is a bigger hindrance to clean energy projects at this point than fossil fuels, which already has a more established infrastructure.

• I mentioned it yesterday, but it seems pretty clear that things are moving again, quickly, with Ukraine's eastern offensive these past few days. This also is probably pretty good timing politically, and it seems the civilians are happy to see them. Rumors of Russian troop losses in the range of 50 thousand, and that's before the most recent action. Liberalism is stronger than authoritarians think it is.
