Police reform is important, and there are many different ideas that already have strong evidence for effectiveness, but unfortunately this one doesn’t appear to have panned out. No one's saying that improved forest & fuels treatments (using prescribed fire & ecologically-conscious thinning) are going to stop wildfires in their tracks. But if they are successful in reducing fire *intensity*, as appears to be case here, that would be a huge success.

Interesting reading about how the thinning and fire resistance works on the ground. This is part of a much longer thread with all kinds of details, including mentioning that the Native Americans had been managing these forests for centuries with deliberete small burns and it had been very effective.
