@davidgerard @cstross For a little more context, here's the pound against the dollar since 1800, showing periods of stability, the point where the £ peaked in the 1860s (£1=$8, when the UK's half-crown got its nickname of 'dollar'), and its steady decline since WWII. Move along, nothing to see here.
The Pound Sterling is down to just $1.09 today, it was $1.37 this time last year.
Also from the article: "This is the kind of project they would typically hoist from a tree and allow locals to beat like a piñata. But not this time."
take it from the guy running Ukraine’s railways in the war:
electrification is the best way to reduce emissions and increase train frequencies/speed, particularly for commuter rail and high priority intercity Amtrak corridors
Alexander Kamyshin @AKamyshin
For reference, Caltrain's electrification project is 82 kilometers and is going to end up taking 7 years (if it's not delayed again)
My degree in the UK is 15% off
