They'll bring it back next year, but it's pretty annoying that Newsom seems to be ignoring clear evidence that this policy change works.

I propose a compromise: Punish jaywalking, but only with silly string. Have cops carry around cans of silly string to zap anyone who jaywalks. This should also be the punishment for drug possession.

Wow. Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed legislation that would have decriminalized jaywalking. In veto message, says he's determined to address unequal enforcement against people of color but "in a manner that does not risk worsening California's pedestrian safety."

The problem with SF is that it wants global city recognition but its too small. It's a tiny village with a tall skyline in a few square miles and that urbanity doesn't exist outside of its northeastern quadrant except for a few pockets in the East Bay.
