This is a really interesting example, I would not have been able to guess at this outcome.

They keep raising the salience of the thing they are afraid of facing attacks over, it doesn’t make sense.

The deal reached on the debt limit was pretty bad for the democrats. I still prefer they mint the trillion dollar coin, but I admit that may also raise the salience of the issue.
