Apple’s not afraid to name their competitors this time: that’s an M1 Max with roughly equivalent GPU perf to an RTX 3080 Laptop edition. Apple effectively came out of nowhere with GPU performance competitive with Nvidia. Imagine how this could scale in a Mac Pro with a 1300W PSU

They also got rid of the touchbar, good riddance.

For context, the US power sector emits just under 3% of annual GHG pollution worldwide. Its carbon footprint exceeds the *global* aviation sector’s.
It’s easy to overstate the stakes of any one climate policy, but the speed that the US grid decarbonizes is unusually significant.
This comparison blew me away, a good reminder that focusing on US power sector continues to be worthwhile, even as it has become cleaner.
