This is very interesting, although also obviously a huge bummer because I don't see this governance structure changing. Although at least it's a specific ask for state legislatures.

• Short thread discussing how Xi strengthened his grip on power at the cost of good governance. The thread mentions a book about the general trend, and I'd add that this is also another example of The End of History. In other news, China announced they will not be releasing GDP numbers.
• Long graph-heavy thread measuring all the ways coal has declined as an energy source for the US, and the impacts of that change. TL;DR: it's dropped by half, and it emits a lot of CO2 so that's a big deal.
