There's a relatively small altitude range where internet satalites work. SpaceX managed to get something up and running first, and it's really cool, but I'm quite worried abut what'll happen if multiple providers try to operate in the same altitudes. The debris from any collission could make the situation even worse.
If they're gonna forgive student loan debt, polling is pretty clear that forgiving everything is very unpopular.
"at least 19 law enforcement officers waited in the hallway, because the commander on scene believed no lives were at risk and it was better to wait until a tactical team could get keys to the classroom before entering". Officers were in the school hallway outside the door by 12:03. Here's a history of how the police department's story has changed. I wonder how the extreme incompetence/cowerdace of the Uvalde police will impact the debate about guns. Certainly doesn't make police departments look good though.
This polling is such a bummer. Not only is any form of gun reform significantly below water, but to stop mass shootings, I suspect we'd need significant gun reform.
Yglesias: "Deadpool voters are the key constituency Democrats need to mobilize for the midterms."
Pretty sure video games are not responsible for violence in society.
• An optimistic thread about the limits of economic growth.
• Short thread with details of the training of Uvalde officers for school shootings, it's really striking compared to what happened.
• Thread detailing how Russia is now making gains against Ukraine. (Careful rocket barrages instead of haphazard flailing)
