@FrKadel @_wayneburkett @Noahpinion A bunch of urbanists (a which I sort-of consider myself a part) freaked out when I told them people's perception of crime is based more on violent crime per mile rather than the per capita crime rate. Rural crime doesn't resonate because the distances between dwellings are vast.

What an interesting angle! I'm certainly more worried about crime the more I see it, no matter what the statistics say.

The Kremlin appears to have shifted is priority away from Kyiv and focusing its forces more aggressively on the Donbas in the east. Russia appears to hope that control of territory there will prove beneficial in negotiations, the Pentagon believes.

In Ukraine, the big change was that Russia now claims there goal was not to capture any cities in the West. Here's a translation of their military presentation about how they didn't actually plan to capture Kyiv. They appear to be going with 'declare victory and leave', which isn't the worst possible outcome.
