Why is life expectancy in the United States so bad?
It seems perverse to be richer than these other countries but falling behind in something as basic as “not dying.”

Some folks responded to Noah Smith's tweet about needing a second dense transit rich city by saying that "Chicago is big!" Sorry, it's not. I spent some time researching the equivalent numbers for Toronto's metro, and I think it's 500 million pre-pandemic.
This is good, it's the same way we do the flu shot, and hopefully it makes a difference, but of course I'm really hoping for that pan-coronavirus goodness. And a universal flu shot while we're at it.
