I’ve been listening to @AnnieLowrey think (and rage) about this topic for years, and I’m so glad to see this article come out.
Once you start looking for time taxes, you see them everywhere, and they are a profound failure of both governance and justice.

It's not just filing taxes where the government wastes our time.

pathetic, honestly

Axios @axios

a sovereign fucking nation forming a task force to compel a mid tier ice cream maker to sell to their residents
What do they think they're going to accomplish with this?

The CDC's new masking recommendations seem fine to me, but it's pretty low stakes as compared to anything related to vaccine policy. If you want to get mad at the public health agencies, get mad at them for not having fully authorized the vaccines yet.
Lot of talk about the new mask recommendations. It's complicated, but hardly worth arguing about.

Big news: President Biden will announce on Thursday a requirement that all federal employees & contractors be vaccinated against the coronavirus, or be required to submit to regular testing and mitigation requirements, per a source with direct knowledge @Phil_Mattingly reports.
Now we're talking!

I like to think I have nuanced views on CEQA... but the courts just overrode our elected school board's two-year old decision to remove a mural about slavery and Native American genocide in a public school, saying there *wasn't sufficient environmental review*
🥴
If you're unfamiliar, that’s the California Environmental Quality Act that they’re using to stop a school from covering a mural with a tarp. If you want someone to stop doing something in California, there’s a good chance you can use CEQA to stop them.
“What do they think they're going to accomplish with this?”
I sense an opportunity for malicious compliance here. Agree to operate in the country again, but only offer one new flavor, and call it “Palestine.” Something with pistachios in it, perhaps.
