This guide to voter's rights from 1908 mentions that in *half* of the states in the US, non-citizen immigrants were allowed to vote, as long as they declared that they intended to *eventually* become naturalized citizens.

I did not know this, very interesting. Although it's still a century ago, so not exactly a democratic utopia.

Delta is clearly very contagious but I wish we had better explanations for the rather abrupt turnaround in cases in India and now (fingers crossed) in the UK.

Now that there's national energy around zoning reform and furthering fair housing I'm seeing a lot of vaporware upzoning. If a zoning proposal requires your average homeowner to spend years paying fees and debating with neighbors in order to build a home: its nothing.

Permitting rules should be simple enough to do in 90 days. Whatever special requirements you wish to add should be added at the start. These long negotiations are designed (and liked) by big developers who openly admit they can weed out competition.
Cities pretend that long complicated processes are free, but it's actually a huge part of the cost of new homes.
