When it comes to how we manage slash and fuels after logging in California, there's room for improvement. There has been a lot of great work done to create fuelbreaks on both private and public forest lands, but some forestry activities actually make the woods more flammable. 1/

Interesting thread regarding how our current liability laws stop loggers from doing a type of controlled burn that would make future fires easier to fight. Instead they leave behind 'Heavy Slash', dead branches piled 30 inches deep. Perfect kindling.

The new study fails to replicate the results of the original, possibly because partisan identities are so strong that people can't be moved once they know their party's position.

This is a bad move, IMHO. Showers are a minor use of water compared to agriculture & lawn-watering, but people get ridiculously bent out of shape over this because it's a concrete thing that they experience every day as an example of government overreach over personal preference.
