BIG NEWS: Apple is finally bringing end-to-end encryption to most of iCloud, including backups, Photos, Notes and more. Apple’s calling it Advanced Data Protection. Full story here, including my exclusive interview with Craig Federighi:
wsj.comWSJ News Exclusive | Apple Plans New Encryption System to Ward Off Hackers and Protect iCloud DataThe optional feature would keep most data secure that’s stored in iCloud, a service used to back up iPhones or save specific device data such as Messages. He's thinking it could erode the college wage premium, which is certainly possible. He goes on "neural network isn't going to renovate your kitchen". On the other hand, maybe college will focus more on other skills? Yglesias linked a 1990s Krugman essay making a similar argument.

Threads

• Great thread summarizing an essay that argues the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration needs to add Pedestrian safety to it's goals. Currently it's only concerned with safety of people inside of vehicles. One major point: pedestrian safety is a classic negative externality that needs regulation.
