TikTok's privacy violations are still not the biggest danger, but wow, this is real bad. He goes on to compare with other apps, and no one else does this, not even Facebook.
Tim Lee wrote a great article about the way this could be fixed with legislation. It essentially makes old video licensing similar to how music licensing works, you'll notice that there isn't that much of an availability/exclusivity problem for music. Yglesias puts it simply: "there’s no good reason digital video should be unavailable at any price". MG Siegler suggests his 3 year old is now a churn risk.
