It's totally wild, but apparently a huge part of the reason is China's relationship with Russia. I’m kinda surprised the US public is so plugged into world news. This relates back to the idea that 'The West' is now just everyone who's opposed to Russia.
KMT is one of the main political parties of Taiwan, best I can tell it's the most conservative party, and is the remnants of the group that originally fled China after losing to the Communists.
