Something I think about sometimes: the US reoriented the entire focus of its foreign policy toward counterterrorism in reaction to 2,977 deaths. It now has much stronger reasons (192 times stronger, to be precise) to reorient its foreign policy around preventing pandemics.

It'd probably be a much better way to spend money. This really calls back to that quote from a few weeks ago ‘best way to protect your constituents from these and other variants is to vaccinate South Africans and Brazilians.’

Roaring performance from @SpaceX Starlink in Ireland. (Partnering with Stripe for payments, of course!) Would be amazing for expanding broadband access in rural Ireland -- just plonk the dish down outside and plug it in. Hope they get full approval for Irish operations soon.

I mentioned earlier SpaceX's ISP ambitions, apparently the beta is available right now and getting relatively positive reviews. For reference, 40-60ms ping is generally good enough for multiplayer games.
