Favorites: AI, Ghiblization, and Burrito Mortgages
Oops, almost all images today
I guess it makes more sense than putting the burrito on layaway while you pay for it.
The new OpenAI image model is really fun, mostly for making 'Studio Ghibli' versions of things, but it has other functions. But seriously, my timeline was mostly Ghiblizations of various things. And they’re really quite impressive, even if they still need some work before they can truly live up to the level of perfectionism and detail in a real Studio Ghibli film.
Flotsam and Jetsam
– Cornell PhD student in the US legally with a student visa filed a lawsuit against the Trump Admin, they've responded by telling him he's being deported. They're also trying to deport a university student with a green card (cached) who came to the US from South Korea when she was 7. (src)(cached)
– Re-opening the Red Sea shipping lanes is probably going to be harder than just one day of bombing a few people in Yemen. Here's a whole thread arguing that the Trump admin doesn't realize how hard this is actually going to be. And for that matter, the actions they're taking also seem to be inflicting a ton of collateral damage (cached). (src)(cached)
– Trump admin is now trying to claim that the stuff they sent to a Senior Editor at the Atlantic wasn't classified. Looking at what the exact content was, Josh Barro points out (cached) this is pretty clearly preposterous. Their other attempted angle is to try to say that these were 'attack plans' not 'war plans' (cached), which... dumb. They've probably burned their intelligence source (cached) by leaking this.
