It would be really nice if "local control" in zoning & housing ever meant anything other than the ability to exclude people from certain neighborhoods.

one of the things i really find amazing about point access blocks is how they unlock housing on small lots.
here's a 5-plex on a 5,250 s.f. lot with units that are <28' wide, in basel
i mean... look at this 2BR home.
not legal anywhere in the US...

The best trick the devil (Apple) ever pulled was convincing the world that App Tracking Transparency was a privacy feature. It's an anti-advertising feature.
It's specifically designed to only harm ad networks not actually protect user privacy.

For the same cost of creating 1 job with Buy American provisions, we could directly hire 10+ home healthcare workers. Would be so much better to keep industrial policy focused on high value stuff like semiconductors and use the savings on welfare state expansion

Adam Ozimek @ModeledBehavior
Likewise Hufbauer and Jung estimate costs of Buy American provisions at around $250k per job. Other studies show costs approaching $1m. Speed is not the whole issue when you have waste like this. https://t.co/69YQANMzqU

In the 1920s, the automobile industry undertook a campaign to shift the onus of responsibility for road deaths from the people doing the killing (motorists, and later DOTs) to the people doing the dying (children, people on foot/bikes). This messaging continues in that tradition.

Make eye contact with all road users to ensure that you are all aware of each other.
Eye contact is one of the non-viral communications that we can do on the road to stay safe.

When people see the disparity between who shows up to zoning & land use meetings vs. the general public, they are consistently floored.

Melissa Bowman @m2bowman
"Housing policy has a democracy problem. Amid a housing crisis, highly unrepresentative public hearing processes contribute to land-use decisions that fail to reflect the perspectives and interests of all affected residents." From @TheTyee https://t.co/fehXuUOcAO

These charts are always mind blowing.
Market incomes for the bottom 20% declined in the 2020 recession to a similar degree as in 2001 and 2008. But instead of relief only blunting losses, we boosted bottom incomes by 50%+

If you were wondering why everyone likes LLaMA, it’s because it would make for a good foundation model. Given the amount of tokens and various sizes of the models it will take time for someone to reproduce it

That didn't take long we're now experiencing fast takeoff of AI as a political issue.

President Biden @POTUS
When it comes to AI, we must both support responsible innovation and ensure appropriate guardrails to protect folks’ rights and safety.
Our Administration is committed to that balance, from addressing bias in algorithms – to protecting privacy and combating disinformation.
