The perfect encapsulation of Elon Twitter is the richest man in the state of North Carolina referring to “elites” in third person and meaning NYT journalists making $38k/yr https://t.co/NnmmGbrLyn
Twitter only verifying elites and friends of Twitter employees was wrong. Democratizing verification for $8 was good. Treating everyone the same is principled. What kind of company sells a product but gives it to elites for free? That's just weird thing to do. https://t.co/KSRItcc26l
Tim Sweeney @TimSweeneyEpic
Don't try to say he means 'cultural elites', Tim is the CEO of Epic, which makes Fortnite, one of the most popular games in America.
Notes on how I turned an hour-long video of a digital thermometer into temperature readings over time by using ffmpeg to split the video into a frame every 10s and Google Cloud Vision to run the OCR I got ChatGPT/GPT-4 to show me how to use both of those: til.simonwillison.net/googlecloud/vi…
had multiple conversations this week with builders who think it's already possible to build self-improving autonomous agents through GPT4. key belief shared is that we are just scratching the surface of what it can do through better prompt engineering:
Here is an explainer about some of the AI advances in the last... 75 hours. While one should not make too much of the suggestive naming, it seems to represent a decent improvement over past performance. And it can be applied by anybody.
i think it is pretty clear that there was a post-January 6th coup and that it is good that there was.
For those asking about Milley: remember that he 1) reached out to China while Trump was coup-ing and told them not to do anything rash and 2) said it was a mistake to be part of the Lafayette Square photo op. Frothy right believes Milley & Nancy Pelosi launched a coup on Trump. https://t.co/8lw1o0ch0E
Image generators (DALL-E in this case) have absolutely mastered the narrow streets genre, no matter the setting or architectural style. These prompts weren't even particularly detailed.
>If an individual apartment is vacant for 2 months every 5 years, that individual apartment has a vacancy rate of 3.3%. I don’t think this is stressed enough — this is normal in between tenants! Aggregate vacancy rates are just this, multiplied across an entire metro region.
@bgreysk We have census data on this. In Los Angeles the citywide rental vacancy rate is 3.5%, and most of those empty units are in between tenants. If an individual apartment is vacant for 2 months every 5 years, that individual apartment has a vacancy rate of 3.3%.

There's a lot of folks under the misunderstanding that it's now possible to run a 30B param LLM in <6GB, based on this GitHub discussion. This is not the case. Understanding why gives us a chance to learn a lot of interesting stuff! 🧵 github.com/ggerganov/llam…

The best trick the devil (Apple) ever pulled was convincing the world that App Tracking Transparency was a privacy feature. It's an anti-advertising feature. It's specifically designed to only harm ad networks not actually protect user privacy. developer.apple.com/app-store/user…
They ignore the economics textbooks, too. Increasing the labor supply by allowing more immigration of workers decreases equilibrium wages in the receiving country. https://t.co/Cz78PLMHl4
