It is crazy that, in a span of less than 3 months, AI beat most of our (admittedly flawed) major tests for creativity & sentience. It acts like it has Theory of Mind. Bing would pass the Turing & Lovelace Tests. It beats the alternative uses & remote association creativity tests.

Here’s a positive trend that’s picking up steam in a tight labor market:
Both blue states & red states are repealing degree requirements for public sector jobs.
List of states that have made reforms:
- Maryland
- Alaska
- Colorado
- Utah
- Pennsylvania
- North Carolina

Rent and food are really the big pressure points now.
"Food at home" up 10.2% in past year.
"Rent of shelter" is up 8.2% in past year -- highest ever.
"Owner's equivalent rent" (another way of measuring rent) is up 8% in past year -- also highest ever

folks often believe there’s guiding principle behind speed of some policy actions versus others (SVB resolution vs gun violence, student debt forgiveness vs edu reform, free fares vs transit frequency) but they miss how much is driven by “is this easy to do with a SQL query”

Honolulu's new metro is one of the most interesting transit projects I've seen. They're building several miles of elevated rail through farmland, with the intention of developing the land in the future (lots of park & rides as well). Similar to how many NYC rail lines were built.

LOL, the copyright lawsuit against Github appears to have been carefully written to make Richard Stallman's head explode.

Flashback to 2003:
My parents’ friends: You’re majoring in philosophy?
Me: Sure, twenty years from now the only white collar work left for humans to do will be to debate functionalism and the “hard problem” of consciousness. It’s either philosophy or plumbing.

I think this is the correct take about the supposed moral hazard of bailing out SVB depositors. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

These are the drills conducted by my kids’ elementary school. Maybe this is contributing to rising rates of anxiety among young people?
