🧵 on the Indian economy and its key drivers for the future:
“Why is India the most important development story on Earth?.. sheer size; as of this year, India is the world’s most populous country, overtaking a now-shrinking China.” 1/10

We need to talk more seriously about how we escaped ZIRP, unemployment is at a 50+ year low, real wages are now positive (and have been for the lower quintiles for some time), and the rich have taken a big hit to their wealth
So many people here dreamed of this scenario.

Ed Prescott would say those other countries have higher employment rates because they have lower taxes
...oh wait

Joey Politano 🏳️🌈 @JosephPolitano
Two things that are true about America's labor market recovery:
1) The speed & strength of the post-COVID employment recovery has been historically strong
2) The US still significantly lags behind most of its peer countries in working-age employment https://t.co/qcec6wAvMP

It is true that with the FairTax, many Republicans did display willingness to raise taxes — on retired people and the poor.

“It isn’t clear how much Mr. Smith’s emphasis on working Americans will lead to changes in Republican tax policy, which has been defined for three decades by opposition to tax increases” https://t.co/H0xCwmJIJI

I liked Cory's work on copyright back in the day but his thinking on economics (via @Noahpinion ) is confused. This is like saying firefighters are supposed to stop fires but houses that have firefighters visit them in a year are more likely to have caught on fire that year.

The famous claim that a home increased in value by $100Ks after a white "front couple" pitched it instead of a Black family was apparently b/s - the 2nd pitch took place 7 moths later, involved new appraisers, and followed a 30% upswing in the market...https://t.co/Y2hUK9tkzk
