Competition law query - if Google, OpenAI etc met and agreed to voluntarily slow down AI development for safety reasons could it be treated as a conspiracy to form a cartel? cc https://t.co/8HK48SZ8aZ
Ugh @Google will "recalibrate" the level of risk it is willing to take when releasing AI tools, due to competitive pressure from @OpenAI. This is the kind of market-driven arms race we do NOT need when it comes to tech that could drastically reshape society, for better and worse.

This is the predictable, catastrophically bad outcome of showing off their ChatGPT demo. If anybody helped OpenAI do that, please stop and do not help them again.

Privately sell it to commercial customers without creating buzz or excitement. If they insist on exhibiting any capabilities beyond SOTA at all, do it with minimum fuss. Publish no models, no papers, and no source code. Change their name away from OpenAI.
I saw someone post one of these Venn diagrams to explain the British Isles, so I made one to explain Los Angeles:
Far too little has been made of the fact that batteries manufactured at the new plant in Weirton, WV are utility-scale and will enable greater grid integration of renewable resources that will replace gas and coal-fired power.

Guess what happened to New Zealand house building rates six years ago
6 years in the making - Auckland's rents are now lower in real terms then they were at the time of upzoning in December 2016. The rest of the country is up over 10% of the same period. A short thread. https://t.co/pXxssJbAgX

There are very high chances that the victory of the allied forces of Taipei, Washington and Tokyo can be achieved with no casualties at all if russia is defeated in Ukraine and all dictators get the ironclad message that aggressive wars of conquest won't be allowed. You choose

Hi everyone, just posted my latest weekend update. This was an important and very good week for Ukraine in this horrible war. German prevarication is getting the coverage, but much of Europe and the USA are heading in the direction of Ukrainian victory. https://t.co/rV1O8nYoMP

Imagine a zoning code that *only* allowed 5-over-1s on 70% of land, all other structure types were banned. That would be a "one size fits all" upzoning. Allowing rowhouses, duplexes, & various sizes of apartments *in addition to* SF detached is in fact legalizing diversity.
Dear Lord. Who on Earth would want to tie their monetary policy to Argentina's???
This is insane. https://t.co/uYQ8pHzfCi

Thinking about how episode 10 of Andor they had Andy Serkis deliver probably the best written, best acted monologue in Star Wars and then instead of ending the episode, five minutes later they give Stellan Skarsgård probably the best written, best acted monologue in Star Wars

All of these claims are wrong, but the “better food” one is the most wrong. Pre-Colombian exchange, no one had ever eaten chile peppers and garlic in the same meal, what a deprived life
Medieval Peasants: 1. Worked less hours than you. 2. Had longer vacations than you 3. Likely had a bigger house than you. 4. Definitely had higher T. 5. Ate better food than you. 6. Paid way less taxes. 7. Rarely saw their "boss" Who's really living in the dark ages?
