single stair is probably familiar to much of housing twitter by now, but residential code up to 6 units is also very 👀👀

Dan Bertolet @danbertolet
.@davinaduerr dropped a WA bill packed with housing goodness:
- residential bldg code to 6 units
- single stair apts to 6 stories
- no enviro review and zero setbacks near transit, parks, schools
- multifamily regs can't be more onerous than single-family

The end of poverty is possible.
Each country shown on this chart achieved a large decline in extreme poverty over the last generation.
This is one of the most important lessons we can learn from the available data: rapid progress against poverty can be achieved.

There is opportunism and grifting and clowns and so much more in politics but you really cannot make sense of the major events in national affairs if you don’t appreciate the role of the large number of earnest people who sincerely believe in what they are doing.

@mattyglesias As someone who worked in both the Cllnton and GW Bush administration, and who loves the West Wing, I always tell people the main reason why I love the show is that it gets the earnestness right. Thanks for reminding people of that.

No single social science paper is decisive, but I really like this one. Seen in conjunction with other papers using a variety of methods, I think the case is strong that something troubling is afoot in science. Thread (references at the end).

We then got eighty million words over the next two years blaming Facebook and the GRU as an alternative to a handful of editors and producers saying "in retrospect, we probably gave more play to that emails story than it objectively warranted compared to other issues at stake."

I still can't believe how well this tweet describes the geopolitical events of the last two years.

Everyone should be so lucky as to find a partner who loves them as much as the Republican Party loves people who cheat on their taxes. https://t.co/qdJjb4tbXI

@Noahpinion About 1 in 50 Black Americans made over $100,000 in 1999, adjusted to 2019. By 2019 it was about 1/5th. 90% of Black households made less than $50,000 adjusted, now it's about half. I think we often lose sight of the tremendous progress America's made in the past twenty years.
