Wow, this is a really fascinating chart I just made. This shows the aggregate maximum performance of the top 500 supercomputers over the last 30 years. Note that up through the end of 2012, this almost perfectly followed an +85%/yr (CAGR) trendline. Afterwards, it slowed to +40%.
