What people don't realize, I think, is that density doesn't encourage community because people in dense places know their neighbors. It encourages community because it takes less time to get to where your friends are, and because there are more people around to make friends with.

Oh gawd. China cracked down on the real estate industry to reduce debt in the system, but this deprived local governments of revenue from land sales, so local governments are having their own shadow banks buy the land to fund basic services!! ARGGHHHH
