There's a tension between "It costs $300k in total comp for a decent engineer, that's just the way it is" and "Everybody knows all the big tech companies are massively overstaffed" and I don't know how that shakes out over the next couple years.

The Cali legislature should just legislate the mass annexation of Bay Area and LA-area cities into one or several large cities. Each with a massive city council representing a couple 10,000 residents. City and County jurisdictions are left over politics from the early 1900s.

- Emeryville & Berkeley exist, rather than being a part of Oakland, because of prohibition era liquor laws.
- Piedmont exists because of anti-sewage taxes
- Albany exists because Berkeley dumped trash there
- Richmond is in Contra Costa because of 1800s port access

Beverly Hills will not be in compliance for at least 8 more months so I expect a lot more to happen there.
