I grew up during the Cold War. I studied the Cold War. When the russians/Soviets say: "We will use nuclear weapons!", the only answer must be: "Try and die." All else is seen as weakness by the kremlin and will lead to the russians using nukes.

Via reddit (GPS path of cutting grass, S4 vs Ultra). I wish every Apple Watch got this GPS upgrade; I always advise users to keep their phone on them so it can use the phone’s GPS. This is an amazing improvement.

“The Chinese naval officers I’ve spoken to in years past have said they fear the humiliation that would result from any kind of failure, and this of course has the effect of them being less likely to take action if there is an increased risk of failure”
nytimes.comU.S. Aims to Turn Taiwan Into Giant Weapons DepotOfficials say Taiwan needs to become a “porcupine” with enough weapons to hold out if the Chinese military blockades and invades it, even if Washington decides to send troops.

This is anecdotal but among "mostly disengaged from politics" normies I speak to I've often heard skepticism that Trump will really run again in 2024. I obviously don't *know* whether he will, but it certainly looks like it to me, and if so there's a big wake up call coming

Californians completed almost 10,000 new backyard houses last year. There’s a ways to go, but YIMBY laws in California are getting results. New York lawmakers need to catch up theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

The idea that it advances racial equity to let people drive recklessly with fake tags and total impunity strikes me as a pretty ill-considered.

D.C. task force gave up on trying to address the fake temporary tags on vehicles. Some drivers of these vehicles act recklessly with no repercussions bc they can't be traced by photo enforcement. Some have racked up 10s of thousands of dollars in speeding fines. https://t.co/RZ0kIg0POU

It is interesting to see the difference between how Judge Cannon described documents and the underlying documents she purportedly described.

There was apparently a docketing error and two still-sealed lists of potentially privileged FBI-seized MAL docs (A is gov docs & B is personal Trump docs) were briefly exposed; copy made its way to @ZoeTillman of Bloomberg who published them last night https://t.co/7YZl5M5mch

1/ The Russian and Ukrainian armies have shown a marked contrast in their approaches to technological innovation. A post on the Russian Telegram channel Veterans' Notes suggests that Russia is bad at integrating new technology into field use.
