The full account of the Toronto woman who disarmed a sword-wielding murderer — an alleged woman-hating terrorist who wrote "Thot Slayer" on his weapon — and ended his attack on her workplace, is the most remarkable thing. via thestar.com/news/gta/2022/…
“All I thought was kick, kick, kick, kick, kick,” the woman said as she fought for her life with the self-described incel teen stabbing her with a 17-inch sword. He kept saying “you fucking whore” and “die die die you stupid whore die.” https://t.co/MY6jslgo5W via @torontostar

My grandfather, born in Russia, came to America as a child with his family fleeing pogroms… and landed not at Ellis Island, but in Boston, leading to a productive life lived entirely in Massachusetts. For he was a stranger and they welcomed him.
One migrant expressed gratitude for the warm reception that he had received in Martha’s Vineyard. “They’re treating us super well,” he said. “We’re getting food, clothing, all our needs met. I love Massachusetts!” https://t.co/8zl0D4opVw

Thank you to and for inviting me on their podcast and enthusiastically answering all my linguistics questions! This episode covers everything from how to spot an artificial language to what “it” refers to in the sentence “It’s 3pm and hot.”
What if...there were more absurd hypothetical questions about linguistics? In this episode, we're joined by @xkcd for a reverse interview: he asks us his weirdest linguistics questions in celebration of his new book, What If? 2 https://t.co/B3DjJC21Bo
i'm anti-imperialist except with respect to the only act of declared nonmetaphorical imperialism this century
I’m anti war except for anytime the US has the opportunity to support a war
Good. India really needs to move past the Cold War here. Russia is no longer India's patron, protector, or friend.
Wow. Indian PM Narendra Modi directly tells Putin that now is not the time for war in a stunning public accusation. "I know that today's era is not an era of war, and I have spoken to you on the phone about this," Modi said.

A Chinese spy tried to steal GE’s secrets. Instead he got caught by the US—and gave the world an unprecedented glimpse into China’s espionage apparatus
Viserys is I think the most interesting part of the show, a portrayal of someone who’s a bad king without being an ~~evil villain~~ type like you’d normally see on TV — he’s just not making sharp, savvy decisions and he’s going to lead the kingdom to some bad outcomes.
@mattyglesias I feel like HOTD actually achieves the moral/political ambiguity that GOT was always supposed to have. For example, Viserys seems like an objectively pretty decent person and king, and yet, the show has you rooting against him.
