Factual correction works, because facts are persuasive.
Wood et al 2018 found no evidence for the "backfire effect". Telling 10,100 people facts on 52 political topics changed their minds, and by a large amount: About ~1/3 much as the left-right divide on that topic!

This is a really interesting point from @MattGertz — Fox News is obviously quite right-wing but when something happens (like Graham's abortion bill or Rick Scott's social security cuts) that's politically inconvenient for the GOP, they don't hype it up.
