I think some of the coverage of this has been a little confused ā Manchin was concerned too much EV tax credit money has flowed to high-income individuals buying cars with too much foreign content and *deliberately* restructured it in a way the automakers donāt like.

But thatās not an āunintended consequence,ā thatās the IRA trying to take some criticisms of the EV tax credit architecture seriously and address them ā the market for high-end electric cars is very strong and doesnāt need subsidy.
