One reason I'm skeptical: Chicago's growth & sustainability has always stemmed in large part from being the leading city of its region. It attracts a lot of intra-Midwest migration. Even if the overall region suffers from WFH, not sure Chicago's *relative* status changes much.

Remote work has generated a lot of discourse about super-expensive cities like San Francisco and New York, but the place that I think is really going to be in big trouble is Chicago.

Great thread here — Manchin is jeopardizing hydrogen, advanced nuclear, CCS, and other technologies he’s long championed and I sincerely hope he will reconsider. https://t.co/5RYcFRzOZL

JesseJenkins @JesseJenkins
.@Sen_JoeManchin is reportedly walking away from the energy package he helped craft over the past 6 months. If @SenateDems pass a FY22 budget bill without this energy package, it'll do enormous damage to the industries & communities Sen. Manchin says he cares about. Here's how.🧵

Responsible countries don't want to bail out irresponsible neighbors who wasted opportunities to make good choices.
I get it, but solidarity really is important even if it should come with conditionality in terms of required reforms, such as turning nuclear plants back on.

Spain, Greece and Portugal reject the EU call for 15% cuts in natural gas consumption to help Germany
Spanish Energy Minister (clearly aiming at Berlin): "Contrary to other countries, Spain hasn't been living beyond its means in energy terms"

OK, so not only do Republicans want to institute a federal ban on abortion, but today 195 of them voted against codifying the right to contraception.
Only 8 voted yes. (Every Dem was a yes).
This was not a “gotcha” bill with a bunch of stuff btw. It was pretty straightforward.

In early 2021 there was a debate among economists about the likely consequences of the American Rescue Plan. Some warned that the package would be inflationary; others were relaxed. “I was Team Relaxed,” says @paulkrugman. https://t.co/5mrwZvAX07 https://t.co/AbhZyQa1H0
