The world is in a much stronger position to respond to and contain outbreaks of monkeypox in large part because of R&D investments in the closely related smallpox virus.
What can we learn from this model to prepare for future threats? 🌍💉

There should be (and maybe is and I just don't know it) a term of art for this kind of factual belief that turns out to be irrelevant.

parents hold inaccurate beliefs about local segregation levels & underestimate them. But information treatments that correct inaccurate beliefs do little to influence support for policies to reduce segregation

As head of dinosaur marketing I am pleased to announce the rebranding of dinosaur feathers, which will now be known as "airblades" or "dangerscales" or something.

I should clarify — I am not worried about an inflationary spiral and neither are financial markets.
But that’s because we are expecting further rate hikes not because we’re expecting the inflation to vanish. https://t.co/oc9Pm6yptB

@mattyglesias What expectations/spirals? 5y5y breakevens aren't indicating spirals at least.

However, people are still worried about where they will charge and whether they will run out of charge. The U.S. Bipartisan infrastructure bill funds for building out charging stations will help to ease some of those fears.

Yes obviously the shooter's name and face doesnt need to be known or shown but what they did to people, and the gun they used, does. These shooters are failures and nobodies. They exist everywhere but only here can they buy guns and do their damage.

I like shooting guns and went through extensive gun training -- they should all be locked up at gun ranges and used exclusively for sport. Not a single one should ever be used for civilian ownership in any civilized country because it serves no other purpose than to kill.

Four years ago, and many dozens of schoolyard gun massacres in the past, I wrote about the person who has done so much in blocking efforts to reduce the carnage.
I wish this, written after the Parkland FL shooting, were no longer relevant. But alas:

Goldman Sachs constructed a model that suggests a one percentage point increase in mortgage rates slows existing home sales 6.5% when the housing vacancy rate is above 2%, but only 2.5% when the housing vacancy rate is below 1% (where it is today) wsj.com/articles/the-f…
