There's no magic lever to fix it all, but one comes close: removing exclusionary zoning and building more housing in cities.

Why is there no legislation of any kind from either party to reform anything about how the FDA works?
There's been tons of *complaints* about various things coming from various different ideological directions, but members of congress aren't supposed to just post.
The government just doesn't work at all unless members of congress attempt to use their specific constitutional authorities in order to enact their preferred ideas.
@mattyglesias Maybe because the left thinks it's unseemly to criticize "the experts" especially during a D administration and the right has more engaging issues to rile up its base? Another question (it might have the same answer) is why the media hasn't had a sustained focus on FDA failures.
I don't want to be a melodramatic CCP-hater, because they really did do a lot to lift China out of poverty. But if they allowed Chinese people as much freedom as Korea, Taiwan, Japan, or even Singapore, there would be no question whether we were in the Asian Century.
Fundamentally, the CCP simply does not trust average Chinese people. Practically every CCP defender I've run into tells me some variant of "No, you don't understand, Chinese people are so unruly, they need to be controlled."
Bullshit.
Economic and social freedom is one hell of a drug
