Every day in the political arena people face choices between emotionally satisfying self-expression and considered thinking about ends and means, and a great many people choose poorly.
The boring answer is that, like most people, I dramatically overestimated Russia's military capabilities. The more interesting answer is that I didn't expect the US to come up with such an effective policy response so quickly.
