Congress should eliminate the favorable treatment of donating appreciated assets relative to selling the assets and donating cash. It would raise some extra tax revenue while eliminating an incentive for rich people to engage in dumb accounting gimmicks.
Big news: South Korea reverses its previous plan to phase out nuclear energy. Incoming government cites rising greenhouse gas emissions and Russian invasion of Ukraine as reasons to invest more in nuclear power.
In the 60s MIT, AT&T, and GE were developing Multics. It introduced many innovations, but had problems. ken, dmr, doug and Joe Ossanna decided to redo it on a smaller scale and called it Unix. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
"Cops don't reduce crime" has become liberals' equivalent of "Humans don't cause climate change" -- a thing we're expected to intone in order to prove that we're in the tribe, even though on some level most of us know it's wrong.
For an added touch of reality, they display some of the cars at the Auto Show parked in fake crosswalks.
Leftists only 70% as nuts as rightists, but there are very few rightists in my social groupings or in my city, which means leftists end up annoying me much more frequently. The solution is follow some rightists on Twitter, so I can remember to be even more annoyed by them.
Friend: "Ugh, you don't want to join that DM group, it's a bunch of techbros obsessing over race and IQ" Me: "OMG, please add me, please add me" Friend: "Ugh, why??" Me: "So I can have someone in this town to be annoyed at besides leftists who won't build housing!"
In addition to taxing people for being too poor, maybe we could enhance with pro-work reforms like whipping https://t.co/26ZOwqU9DO
I'll put my record on cutting taxes up against anyone in the Senate. My proposal is about getting people back to work and preventing some from freeloading. This is OUR America, and we all need to be a part of it. https://t.co/uH4qzQqC4l

A world without the threat of conquest would be a much better world.
What does a world look like in which medium sized states look at military great powers and start thinking, "you know what, when push comes to shove we could f--- up those guys"

Begging Democrats to speak to one (1) person who did not attend college.
We must do two things before the midterms. Cancel student debt and pass a bold climate package. That’s what I heard this week from young people in Galesburg, Rockford, Chicago, Philadelphia, Cambridge, and Orangeburg. Anyone who talks to young people will hear the same thing!
Ro Khanna @RoKhanna
This is not dispositive as to the merits of the issue, but I just really wish the discussion of it would acknowledge that the majority of Americans — in all age cohorts — have $0 in student loans because they did not attend college at all.
If you travel around the country and every young person you talk to tells you about the burden that student debt places on their life, then you are talking to a highly unrepresentative group of people in a way that will distort your understanding of many issues not just one.
