“I prefer peace. But if trouble must come, let it come in my time, so that my children can live in peace.”—Thomas Paine
What would you pick if your only options are a war now or a sweeping full subjugation in ten-fifteen years? Ukraine’s elites knew war was inevitable, only its timing was a matter of consideration. By the way, last time Ukraine was invaded by Russia, it was not about NATO at all.

First thought: I’m glad these companies are stepping up to fight climate change in a smart way Second thought: Why the hell isn’t the government doing this (at 100x the scale)?
what's taking them so long to approve a second booster for people under 50? i haven't heard a peep about there even being a process in motion. did they forget?
Now the triple vaxxed are being admitted to the ICU. Not surprising as antibodies are now beginning to wane 3-4 months after getting the booster. There’s no durable immunity/herd immunity. We need boosters every 4 months and widely available Paxlovid until we have better vaccines https://t.co/LBENGGwnjt

Some subtle indications that Donald Trump is seeking to build an authoritarian political movement that places personal loyalty to him over democratic values, the rule of law, and the constitution.
Trump in a new statement says he won’t endorse Bill McSwain for Governor because he didn’t help overturn the election when he was top fed prosecutor in Philadelphia telling line from Trump: “It was there for the taking and he failed so badly.” https://t.co/EGbb9gGLLb

Been nearly 2 weeks since Glenn pretended he just wanted to see 'independently verified evidence' of the horrors of Bucha. Of course, since numerous sources have provided that verification (including the NYT), Glenn just never brought it up again. Funny, that.
Macron, wisely, is trying to back away from his unpopular position on raising the retirement age. A good way to win elections is to try to avoid taking unpopular stances on high-profile issues.
I think if Russia withdrew its troops from Ukraine that support in DC for continued fighting would fall by quite a lot — maybe there’s some kind of wager we can make on this?
There is one thing absolutely clear about the motives of the permanent DC class when it comes to war in Ukraine: they don't want it to end. That's actually been very clear from the beginning. The goal is prolonging it. https://t.co/nxmoWWbf2o

Local control is often framed as democratic but @JerusalemDemsas makes a great point: requiring some working class mom to understand what minimum lot sizes is at a 7pm meeting isnt democratic at all.

It’s weird to see some on the left wheeling out the standard anti-interventionist taking points (which I often agree with!) at a time when the us military hasn’t intervened in Ukraine and the president has repeatedly stated his determination not to.
youtube.com/watch?v=LxgMdj… Kurzgesagt now sounding a lot more like . We're not on a glide path to end global warming, but the situation really is improving and the challenges changing to new, less impossible ones.
