Yes, I absolutely needed Paul Rudd to once again prank Conan with the Mac and Me bit but this time on a podcast with Conan just screaming the whole time "you can't do this on a podcast"

There really isn't a better case for universal sectoral bargaining (not even min wage laws) than this email. The exec outright admits that they're depending on desperate employees working multiple jobs to keep wages low which we all knew but the brazenness.

LEAKED EMAIL: Applebee’s franchise exec says that rising gas prices are great for business because the chain can offer workers lower wages.

Russia calls for its "partner Trump" to be installed as President.
Trump calls for Russia to help him politically.
All this while Russia commits war crimes through a brutal, unprovoked invasion of another democratic nation.
This is the leader of the Republican Party.

There’s a misconception that the merits of mandatory parking regulations has something to do with the local demand for parking — but even a city with 100% car ownership and no sidewalks shouldn’t have parking minimums. https://t.co/VSecA0La9k

“This is not a pedestrian and bicycle city. We don’t have a mass transit system, period.”
-- Miami commissioner @Manolo4Miami, voting to bring back the city's parking minimum requirement.
What an absence of leadership.

I'm really proud of this big piece we put out this morning — an effort to go through the biggest issues in the Ukraine war and provide accessible (if tentative) explanations. Here's a thread on what I concluded

It's bad in some individual European countries such as Germany but overall the BA.2 wave in Europe is leveling off and starting to look more like a ripple.

1/Some exciting things ahead for geothermal in the FY23 White House budget request. After a disappointingly flat budget in FY22, this is a major step forward that will mean big things for the geothermal industry, so a quick overview THREAD.

30% of workers experience a "triple peak day," per new Microsoft research
Traditionally, knowledge workers had two productivity peaks—before lunch and after lunch.
When the pandemic kept ppl home, a third peak emerged for many in the hours before bedtime.

3 things are clearly true
1.Turnout doesn’t inherently help or hurt Democrats
2.Nonvoters aren’t significantly more liberal or Democratic than actual voters
3.More ideological extreme candidates tends to increase the other party’s turnout more than their own

Daniel Marans @danielmarans
... A lot of people on the left still maintain that a swing state isn't so much "conservative," as it is a place with an untapped constituency of progressive or populist non-voters.
I'm skeptical of that argument, but that's what a lot of the electoral debates boil down to.

STEM immigration reform shouldn't be an afterthought in a competitiveness bill, it should be central to our strategy for retaining American technological leadership.
