I want India to be a great power not because this helps the U.S.' strategic interests (though it probably does), but simply because I believe India *deserves* to be a great power.
India might already be the world's most populous country (or at least will be soon), it's been a beacon of democracy where most countries at similar income levels have struggled, it's a religiously and ethnically diverse society, and it's resolutely anti-colonial in outlook.
