The worst idea in crime policy is that punishing the innocent is a close substitute for punishing the guilty.2

Jennifer Bendery @jbendery
Today, Senate Republicans tried to blame one of President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees — Nina Morrison, an attorney with the Innocence Project who has freed dozens of innocent people from prison and death row— for driving up violent crime across America. https://t.co/jumbchiYkn

Kamil Galeev's threads on Russia are just incredible. Best thing I've found on Twitter in forever.

Most of so called foreign policy is domestic policy by other means. For this reason I think Putin is reluctant to start a full scale invasion of Ukraine. During such a war professional military would get too much power and authority. Which might be Kremlin's biggest fear (🧵) https://t.co/SbVRv3kEIv

Very likely that we're going to go from CDC finally recommending N95s after over a year of pressure then, ~5 weeks later, not recommending any masks.

In her interview with Remnick, AOC gets at something critical: the key divide in Dem politics isn’t left v center—it’s procedural boldness v timidity. https://t.co/0N5y8gfDpN https://t.co/ejKPLUzyhM

The Discourse is going to spin in circles forever if people insist you can achieve wholesale transformation of the health care and energy sectors through the same means that brought us a half-built border wall.

"short data science" has been a very good position to have in the stock market the past few months. I made a spreadsheet called "companies with too many data employees" (scraped linkedin) that I've been using to short earnings. Roku was one of most egregious.

Jarosław Duda is a computer scientist who invented a compression technique called ANS more than a decade ago. Ever since he's been trying to keep it in the public domain, which is way harder than it should be. Microsoft just got a related patent.

We're not going to add Ukraine to NATO, but we are going to prove that Poland and Romania are true NATO members and that we would fight to defend them.

Shashank Joshi @shashj
“The reinforcements would more than double the number of American ground troops in the two countries—to roughly 9,000 in Poland and nearly 2,000 in Romania—putting US soldiers and Russian troops in perhaps the closest proximity outside of drills in years” https://t.co/DSzUMU7dc7
