Last week's jobs report was widely misunderstood — it's true we got a good result despite omicron, but that doesn't mean omicron wasn't impacting the economy.
If anything it should increase our confidence that the virus has been holding back growth.

I get tired of talking about my job. So I ask questions to redirect the conversation. Which just led to:
Hairdresser: What do you do?
Me: Oh, I'm a writer, books and stuff. What do you do?
Hairdresser, ie the woman cutting my hair at that very moment: ...I'm a hairdresser.

Differing views on this seem to be driven by Trump derangment syndrome. The Russian ads were pro-Trump while Trump was anti-TikTok, and so people sort themselves into the appropriate partisan camps.

Hope @EmilyRPeck hasn't gone through my timeline and discovered all the times I criticized Elizabeth Holmes and Marjorie Taylor Greene...this could be the moment I'm exposed 😅😅😅

Turning vacant units into occupied units is great.
And a great way to do it is to allow people to build more new units, which then become vacant until occupied.

Once you understand that most incumbents in this city operate like cartels, every decision makes more sense. It’s such a limited zero sum attitude

It’s interesting that when I was young all the new music was good but that’s become less true over time as I age.

Because people still won't believe me when I say Tokyo rents are infinitely more affordable than NYC: this light-filled, modern apartment is 15 mins by train from Shibuya, and is going for approx $1,250 a month. realtokyoestate.co.jp/estate.php?n=1…

It's because free vaccines became widely available but a significant minority of the population has chosen not to take them — a highly regrettable course of events, but one which essentially requires us to "normalize" in the face of their obstinacy.
