It’s a slippery slope from using “liberal” in this way to calling rich people “middle class” because they don’t have hereditary titles and next thing you know you’ll be saying the fancy places that charge tuition are public schools.

Everyone gets mad if you say this but the median senate seat is R+6 so it’s going to be extremely challenging to pass any progressive legislation — you can either give up, or else try to come up with ideas to shift the electoral geography and reduce the education/density skew.
