The number of new international students in the US dropped by 45% from the 2019/20 school year to 20/21. If this persists we've reached a turning point for US science and innovation towards decline https://t.co/vbN4YowSML

There’s this weird phenomena happening right now in the streets of San Francisco. There are cars on the road very close to other cars. And they’re not moving. In the olden days I believe the elders would call this “traffic”, but it hasn’t been seen in many moons. 🚗🚙🚌🚎🚚🚛

Many academics say "we don't have a housing shortage", and then transition to "well we do have one but even at zero profitability construction costs make new homes expensive." And it just never seems to click that we should reduce the construction costs

Fun fact of the day: any car that can haul 6,000 pounds is ineligible for a residential parking permit in San Francisco.
This means most large vehicles can’t park for >2hrs in residential neighborhoods. Further proof F150s, Suburbans, and Cayennes don’t belong on city streets.

Examples from @danluu where the psychology research doesn't say what people think it says, such as:
- Dunning Kruger
- "Money doesn't make you happy, above X amount"
- "People's happiness bounces back to a set point after positive and negative events"

I’m told Sec Buttigieg is obsessively gevitalout on why France + other EU countries can built infrastructure at a much lower cost than we can here in the flawless US of A. A very good sign; solving that dilemma is vital; he’s found exactly the right thing to zero in on. #Smart

As Pres. Joe Biden gets set to sign a $1 trillion infrastructure package, many eyes are turning to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. https://t.co/nfNoxdCH7g

The people who say that without Elon Musk, NASA would have done all the suff that SpaceX is doing, have no idea how much it costs NASA to do stuff.

IG also projects the first four SLS missions with Orion will cost NASA "$4.1 billion per launch." https://t.co/PCeldhZ34h

Remember, we will NOT ban cars (except in a few small areas of downtowns).
Electric cars are our only hope for decarbonization of transportation, and that is just a fact.

Meanwhile, there are hundreds of thousands of vehicles that are boot-eligible due to unpaid tickets:
DC = 43,868
VA = 167,937
MD = 335,908
It would take over *25 years* for @DCDPW crews to boot all of these vehicles at this current rate w/their current resources.

Our construction wages are lower than many other rich countries, and our unions weaker than most. So this can't explain our excess costs.

Also, this is precisely why describing green card reform as "just for businesses" is so counterproductive.
For workers on a temporary visa it fundamentally shifts bargaining power and prevents bullshit like this.

@itsALLrisky @SenSanders Agreed, taxes are best applied to (especially extravagant) consumption, whereas capital allocation taxes reduce goods & services output, so actually bad for the people.
Probable capital allocation skill of heirs is lower than original creator, so I am in favor of an estate tax.
