Isn’t this what every chain does with its private label brands? I never understand this line of criticism.

Internal Amazon documents examined by @Reuters – including emails, strategy papers and business plans – show the company ran a systematic campaign of creating knockoffs and manipulating search results to boost its own product lines in India.

A good indication of the total lack of intellectual rigor in this movement is that we just shift here from a debate about police funding levels to a basically unrelated question about incarceration levels.

Alec Karakatsanis @equalityAlec
@mattyglesias First, the "pet cause" here is the greatest mass human caging bureaucracy in world history. Second, the analogy applies to any other movement that wasn't successful/popular in the first 12 months, like women's suffrage, same sex marriage, climate change, etc...

If you want less incarceration, make prison sentences shorter. It’s still good to have police.

Great essay, fascinating and well written. Locke was a bastard but that doesn’t mean we can just let scholarly standards slip when working out what he actually said! Not a good moment for Kendi.

Never punch down.
Instead, redefine the hierarchy so you're at the bottom. Then you're always punching up!

People like the roar of a V8 because they associate the sound with speed and power, but once you’ve driven a nice electric car, “the roar of a V8” sounds as impressive as the beep bop boop of a dial up modem.

This is pure status quo bias, of course. But at the same time, being forced to rely on a gimmicky loophole to avoid a debt default could be almost as confidence-reducing as an actual default, because it would conclusively show how unable we are to govern ourselves.

🤔 Trump just threatened to have Republican voters stay home in 2022 and 2024 unless the party is able to "solve" (by which he seems to mean overturn) the result of the last presidential election, which he lost.

This is absolutely wild. Though many of the BBB bill's provisions are popular on their own, overall most Americans don't think the bill will make them better off.

Genuinely outrageous that the NYT let an Englishman review One Billion Americans — of course he doesn’t want us to achieve enduring greatness!

Graeme Wood @gcaw
These assignments are made from a place of great cowardice. Book about England? Find some Englishman to review it, because you’re not sure an American or Guatemalan can do the job. Book about Asians? You could assign a black reviewer, or a white one. But why take the chance?

My followers get mad at me for retweeting anti-woke folks, but stuff like the disaster of the SF school board is just hard to ignore. This is real governance failure, and screeching at anyone who mentions it is no longer a viable option.

Wesley Yang @wesyang
The SF school board ends a wild year of woke frenzy so badly in the red (deficit of more than $100 million) that the state of California is likely to have to seize control https://t.co/EEJB9g3Nr6 https://t.co/oF8iUsQSUg

Ezra Klein picked up on this a while ago.
At some point, liberals have to move from the "raising their fists and fighting The Man" stage to the "actually running stuff" stage, and in California -- especially in the Bay Area -- it's not going well.
