It’s weird to me that there’s consistently more support for mask mandates than vaccine mandates — vaccines are both more effective and less annoying.

This is an EMERGENCY: The Census Bureau has gone insane and is proposing to block the release of data on households at the city level or lower. This means a decade of research on gentrification, displacement, health, environment ect would be IMPOSSIBLE

Please, send an email to 2020DAS@census.gov with the title: "2020 Census data products" and tell them to release all information down to the block level
*Even if you're not a data scientist* this will nullify efforts to pass laws and improve lives for years on end.

Pressuring tech companies to stay out of Texas seems counterproductive for people who care about reproductive rights. Texas has been getting bluer in recent years. Expanding the population of Austin tech workers would likely speed up the process.

The paradox of the national debt: as long as @AlanMCole debt dovishness is the minority view among voters, government will keep spending under control and @AlanMCole will be proven correct (as he has been so far).

Compare what Barack Obama told @ezraklein about his outreach to non-college whites to what David Simas (more accurately) told him in today's piece.

The Simas thing is a little distant from the headline, but I think it's by far the most important element in the story.
There was a hard-knuckled realism to Obama's campaigns that's been lost since 2012 and these days few want to speak frankly.

In this memo I also try to explain why so much of the President's agenda is popular, and his numbers can be dropping.
Bottom line - in polling being popular isn't that material. To move votes an issue has to be popular AND important; and it must be able to survive GOP attacks.

After ~10 years, Google is winding down its Material Design custom UI work on iOS in favor of pure UIKit. Why? UIKit got better, and “time we're saving not building custom code is now invested in the long tail of UX details that really make products feel great on Apple platforms”

Jeff Verkoeyen @featherless
This year my team shifted the open source Material components libraries for iOS into maintenance mode. Why?
