
One of the vexing aspects of the Afghanistan coverage is that "people risk their lives to flee to the United States" is the story *every day* at the southern border, but the conventional framing of that story is it's a policy failure when they succeed.


I think more openness to immigration would be good.
But if you want to find people with sympathetic stories who are not currently able to migrate to the country, you don't need to look to a warzone halfway around the world.
