Me to kid: "Public schools already require you to be vaccinated against a bunch of other diseases."
Kid: "Really?"
Me: "Yep. You are vaccinated against polio, rubella, pertussis, diphtheria, mumps, to name a few."
Kid: "What? I've never heard of any of those."
Me: "Exactly."

Cryptocurrencies are to real world economics as mining 3He from the Lunar regolith to burn in aneutronic fusion reactors is to solving CO2 emission-induced climate change: panglossian bullshit that doesn’t stand up to more than superficial examination, concealing a hidden agenda.

Yes, better land use and urbanism will help reduce emissions somewhat, but don't oversell this effect. The countries with the best urbanism in the world also have fairly high emissions.

Джейк Зальцман @Jake_Saltzman
@Noahpinion any idea why South Korea and Taiwan have the highest per capita emissions in the top 20 among non energy-producing countries? I'd have thought as the dense, urban countries they are they'd be way lower https://t.co/maNJXeIlxP

Spoiler: She's pushing to bringing back fossil fuel-emitting cars to Golden Gate Park and the Great Highway.

Today, we awoke to orange, dark skies, alarming reminder of the reality of climate crisis. That's why I signed @sunrisemvmt's #GreenNewDeal pledge. I will champion a Green New Deal in any and all ways, and refuse to take any contributions from the fossil fuel industry. 1/ https://t.co/Jd7betr391

A lot more detectives and more foot patrols, and far fewer car patrols, is my guess...

my hot take is that a police department that largely devoted its resources to preventing and solving violent crime would look nothing like any currently existing american police department in terms of structure, personnel or training

I would vote for a doubling of police funding in this country if 100% of the new money went to detectives.

Evidence from re-enlistment bonuses shows that US Army personnel are sensitive to role-specific mortality risk, but on average require much less financial compensation for risk of death than you see in private sector data.

Imagine a judge ruling that landlords can do evictions but *only* of active duty soldiers https://t.co/WQQXkUCZHT

ethan winter @EthanBWinter
the third amendment lawyers association filed an amicus brief arguing that the CDC eviction moratorium violated landlords' constitutional rights by forcing them to quarter soldiers. lawyers are truly amazing https://t.co/48xrCFCXaF
