Focusing in, they investigated ‘calm’ and ‘desperate’ emotions, found that when Claude is given a programming task that is impossible, the desperation emotion becomes stronger and calm weaker, especially if it decides to cheat. The Senate voted 89-9 to add an amendment to an otherwise amazing YIMBY bill that would make it basically illegal for a company to build rental apartments. If you had asked me what these lines would look like, this is not what I would have predicted this. There were many responses to the idea from Citrini research that AI will put Uber and DoorDash out of business business, but this one really landed. Clearly for this to work, it’s integrating a fair amount of world knowledge. Like, for the forklift, it works because the model sort of knows what a forklift looks like, so it can guess what the parts it can’t see look like.

Political violence is uniquely bad, it makes it impossible to conduct normal politics. They have yet to apprehend the shooter. Democrats and Republicans have loudly condemned the attack (cached), which makes it more noticeable that Republicans didn’t condemn the assassination of a Minnesota state congresswoman. Trump said calling the families or the governor was a 'waste of time'. It’s a real indictment (cached) of modern social media that the clips of this murder and of the Ukrainian woman on a train have circulated so widely. I recently skimmed a debate between Eric Newcomer and Ed Zitron, who wrote The Hater’s Guide To The AI Bubble. I think the revenue numbers are really quite important to the question about whether there's any value here, especially considering they're still doing it purely with subscriptions, which historically have been a relatively poor way to scale monetization on the internet. It's just very clear that as much as some people think AI is worthless, there are hundreds of millions of people who are using it regularly.

Ever the showman, Trump sure knows how to get people's attention. I understand the stealth bomber is not usually used at that altitude of course.

The lesson is that when you talk about increases and decreases in employment for specific job titles, you need to be very careful that you're not just looking at a cultural shift in which word is used to describe the job. The source is a Washington Post article. Although as the graph points out, the underlying source is the BLS, so that’s one more thing to worry about.
